Director Peyton Reed Believes "There's a Great FANTASTIC FOUR Movie to be Had"

At this moment, director Peyton Reed is highly successful at Marvel Studios with their ANT-MAN franchise as he's nearing a deal to return for its sequel, ANT-MAN AND THE WASP. And this is relevant because Reed loves the Fantastic Four. He was ohh so close to helming the first film by 20th Century Fox in 2005. A decade ago already, believe it or not.

Recently, Reed revealed his vision for the FANTASTIC FOUR, which was turned down by Fox. A passionate comic book fan which he really is, he's focused on the ANT-MAN franchise, and he is still talking about the one that got away (via Yahoo).

“Fantastic Four in the comics was always the pinnacle of Marvel, the crown jewel — they were the first family of Marvel Comics. The two existing versions did massive pendulum swings from each other. One was very pitched toward younger kids and very broad, and the second was a much darker version of it. I just personally feel like they have not gotten the tone right. And man, it’s a bummer. I think the tone has got to be one of optimism, and you’ve got to take it seriously.”

Reed stills has some ideas for Marvel's first family bouncing around in his head.

“I think they haven’t really gotten Mr. Fantastic’s powers right visually on screen. I think there’s some really badass ways to make that [character] work. I just know there’s a great Fantastic Four movie to be had. I’m convinced that it can work."

Maybe if/when Marvel Studios ever gets the FANTASTIC FOUR franchise movie rights back from Fox, they'll give Reed first crack at it.
