GAMBIT Said to be Heist Movie and Starts Filming Spring 2016; Plus it Could Take Over FANTASTIC FOUR 2 Date
Over at Fox they are expanding their X-Men movie universe by adding next year's DEADPOOL movie into the mix along with a now confirmed heist movie, GAMBIT. DEADPOOL will release on time on February 12, 2016 but it seems more than certain GAMBIT will not make its October 7, 2016 release. Especially since producer Simon Kinberg has confirmed to Collider that it will not start filming until spring 2016.
"The X-Men movies are dramatic and almost operatic, whereas Deadpool is irreverent and hysterical and sort of a dirty R-rated comedy in many ways. And Gambit will have its own different flavor and tone to it, will be more of like a heist movie and a sexy thriller in a way.
"...[W]e hope to start shooting next spring."
There is no way GAMBIT will hit its October 2016 release and The Daily SuperHero is now hearing from one of its Hollywood insiders that Fox is considering putting GAMBIT into a release on June 9, 2017 which is currently slotted for FANTASTIC FOUR 2. Previously, there's been rumors that a DEADPOOL sequel could be slotted into the Fantastic Four sequel's date but that tune has now changed with production delays on GAMBIT since it was supposed to start filming last month. So it makes perfect sense to plug the Cajun's film into that June 2017 spot instead.
