Marvel's DOCTOR STRANGE will be the first Marvel Cinematic Universe entry which will heavily explore the realm of magic and other dimensions. Being a new entry into the MCU means some origin will be needed to explain how Dr. Stephen Strange becomes the Master of the Mystic Arts.
Non-comic book readers and casual moviegoers probably aren't too familiar with DOCTOR STRANGE, so Marvel Studios head Kevin Feige briefly detailed the movie while speaking with EW.
“We will take audiences through sort of a guide to the multiverse, other dimensions, and there are amazing things out there — wonders that are going to be hopefully visually extremely interesting and unique to this movie,” Feige said. “But there are also very scary things in these other dimensions.”
The fact Feige makes a point at stating how there will be "scary things" in DOCTOR STRANGE is the definitive reason as to why he chose horror movie director guru Scott Derrickson to helm the Phase 3 movie.
DOCTOR STRANGE is currently filming in England and releases on November 4, 2016.
