BATMAN V. SUPERMAN: Initial U.S. Opening Forecast is $154 Million Which is Solid But Less Than Previous Dark Knight Movies
BoxOffice.com has released its first U.S. opening weekend projection for BATMAN V. SUPERMAN: DAWN OF JUSTICE at $154 million. While this number is most definitely big, it falls to the bottom of the Top 10 list of U.S. opening weekends of all-time.
Having both Batman and Superman headlining such a huge movie should forecast a bigger opening haul, right? Especially when you add Wonder Woman and Lex Luthor; plus cameos by Aquaman and the Flash. Right?!
Of course this movie will be huge, but is a $154 million domestic opening haul big enough? Does Warner Bros. and DC Entertainment hope for something closer to AVENGERS: AGE OF ULTRON and its $191 million opening weekend?
There's lots of questions surrounding the box office performance of BATMAN V. SUPERMAN and the debate about it is fierce on social media platforms, too. But the fact remains that it's unclear if this movie will open big enough to appease the expectations of studio executives and fans. This early projection is even less than the openings of both THE DARK KNIGHT and THE DARK KNIGHT RISES, which didn't have the Superman or Wonder Woman appearances to add more fan and general audience interest.
Then there's the critics... who might not like the film seeing as how director Zack Snyder's movies have never scored higher than 75-percent, for Dawn of the Dead, on Rotten Tomatoes. If the critics don't like the movie, then that could potentially hurt box office performance as well since bad reviews and scores can have an affect on the opinion of the larger mainstream audience.
It'll obviously make a lot of money, and be a profitable film, but will it be the true gigantic blockbuster everyone is hoping for? Share your thoughts on this topic in the comments section below.
