In a ballroom full of Marvel fans, Marvel actor Frank Grillo (Brock Rumlow / Crossbones) took the stage with CAPTAIN AMERICA: CIVIL WAR directors Anthony and Joe Russo at Wizard World Cleveland today. Then, Frank Grillo opened Pandora's Box when it comes to talking smack about DC Films by poking some fun at BATMAN V. SUPERMAN: DAWN OF JUSTICE.
Grillo on #BatmanvSuperman: "If you have $15 left to your name, save it. Batman vs. Stupidman. Nobody's gonna stop me, I'm Crossbones." 😳😂☠— The Daily SuperHero (@DailySuperHero) February 27, 2016
The Daily SuperHero tweeted this out because it was a funny little remark that would surely shake up the DC vs. Marvel debate and oh my gosh did it ever. Many DC fans are pissed, and rightfully so, because they are a highly passionate fanbase.
Grillo was poking fun and catering a joke, however bad DC fans see it, to a very large Marvel crowd. Had it been the other way around and a DC actor was talking smack at Marvel films a similar reaction would have occurred. Grillo knew exactly what he was saying and the look on Russo brothers' faces even told a story of Grillo poking too much fun.
But in the end, the damage has been done. I don't regret tweeting out a very catered comment and based on Grillo's response to the Russos' instant expression, he didn't care either.
It's okay to think he said this in poor taste because that's what is great about comic book movie fandom... the fans are legitimately passionate about their heroes and villains. The debate about DC vs. Marvel has been going on for many decades, there's probably been worse smack talk too, and this is just the next little jab. In the end, most DC fans like Marvel and vice versa (like the guy typing this out right now) but to resort to name calling and inappropriate remarks online is just uncalled for.
Please note: Frank Grillo was joking about his #BatmanvSuperman comment... Kinda... Maybe.— The Daily SuperHero (@DailySuperHero) February 27, 2016
Overreaction to Grillo's BvS jab is too much. Chillax. He was playing favorites in a room full of Marvel fans. Be better than name calling.— The Daily SuperHero (@DailySuperHero) February 27, 2016
