Agent Carter Season 2 Episode 8 & 9: 'The Edge of Mystery' and 'A Little Song and Dance' Recap

Another double episode, which means the second season of AGENT CARTER is coming to an end (cue tears). We can relish that this was another great week.

Let’s start off with our favorite butler. Jarvis is rightfully pissed about his wife's current comatose state but for the time being stays with her. Peggy is a adamant about getting Jason back and goes as far as to go to the crazy mobster to give Whitney a message about a trade. Jason for the uranium rods.

Meanwhile, Ana wakes up after pleading and begging from Jarvis. However, she isn't able to carry children, which Jarvis doesn't tell her. When Jarvis finds out they're going for the trade, he refuses to be left behind. Looks like we’ve got a butler on the edge.

Howard actually seems to be doing something of use. He sends a code to the team on how to build a machine to eliminate zero matter. A gamma cannon.

Thompson goes to see Peggy with “evidence” of some horrid crime that she digs up in exchange for her coming back to New York with him.She isn’t rattled a bit and dismisses it as a fake before going on with the plan.

The trade for Wilkes goes over like gangbusters until the rods drop out and Whitney realizes they are fake and they have to run. Jason turns out to be working for Whitney and threatens Peggy and Sousa. Until Sousa breaks and tells him where the real rods are. Sigh. How very disappointing. I had high hopes for you Jason.

But we do seem to see some change in character for Thompson when he finds out Vernon is working with Whitney and attempts to stop him but gets zapped with the memory wipers. He isn't totally useless though; when Sousa and Peggy arrive they realize that Jack wrote down coordinates to Whitney frost whilst was eavesdropping.

They get the team together with Thompson and Samberly to go after Whitney, Jason and the bad guys with the gamma cannon. All does not go well for either team. Whitney is more than a little upset when they set off the bomb and Jason gets swallowed up by the zero matter black hole, but she is left behind.

The gamma cannon, however, works perfectly and takes out the black hole and knocks Jason down. Jarvis decides to go all Rambo and shoots Whitney Frost, who miraculously didn't die. It just ticked her off.

Part 2 of this 'super episode' has a cute musical beginning with Peggy being torn between Jason Wilkes and Daniel Sousa with a special guest appearance of Angie. Yep it's a dream. Peggy finally wakes and realizes that she and Jarvis were captured by Whitney and her men and quickly escape

Peggy and Jarvis get into an argument that is quickly forgiven and forgotten once they get a ride into the city.

Thompson managed to convince Vernon Masters that they should use the gamma cannon on Whitney. Sousa and Samberly are in on the plan. However after they make the deal, Peggy goes and beats the crap out of Vernon Masters before being filled in on their plan.

In the meantime, Whitney is going power hungry and performing experiments on an unwilling Jason Wilkes to get the zero matter out of him. He is one step away from going all Hulk on her.

Thompson is sent to deliver the news about the cannon. It seems he is double crossing them by telling Whitney that they plan to use the cannon against them in exchange for a seat on the council, but in reality has his own mastermind plan. After their car is sabotaged, Sousa and Peggy learn from Samberly that Thompson actually plans to use the cannon as bomb and blow Whitney and Jason and everyone else in that building up.

Peggy meanwhile ditched Samberly and Sousa to get Jason out before the bomb goes off. Jason is as stubborn as she is and refuses to put her in danger by locking her out. He is last seen trying to get to Whitney as he explodes into a huge pile of zero matter goo. Yuck.

Thompson, Peggy and Sousa are locked in a semi Mexican stand off when Jack tries to detonate the bomb. I vote Peggy shoots him and get it over with.

One of the greatest moments of this double episode was Peggy's speech to Jarvis about not truly knowing loss. This scene really let Hayley Atwell show off her acting chops and how well she knows her character. Peggy has accepted the life she has will have consequences and she will face loss, but will not force anyone to come along with her.

Thompson still seems to be straddling the line between what is right for everyone and what’s right for himself. It seems he will be on team Peggy during the finale, so here’s hoping he’s not as douchey as he can be.

Sousa seems to be back in the running for Peggy’s beau now that it seems like Jason is really dead this time. There’s no point in drawing out this love story any longer. It has been clear by both parties how they feel for each other and it would be a good ending for the finale if Peggy finally finds some happiness.

Next week’s episode shows a promising finale. We finally get to see Peggy come up against Whitney at her full power. Whitney looks to be at full alien power come next week. It looks like the implosion of Jason Wilkes may have only let her absorb all the zero matter that he couldn’t take. We will finally see who is the last woman standing, Whitney or Peggy.
