According to director Bryan Singer, X-MEN: APOCALYPSE is the end of the 'First Class' Trilogy of films for Fox's X-Men movie franchise. While speaking with DigitalSpy, Singer and producer Simon Kinberg disclosed some hints about the film's three main characters played by actors Michael Fassbender, Jennifer Lawrence and James McAvoy.
This film is about Magneto's emotional journey.
"The person who is a fulcrum in this story is Magneto," Kinberg said. "If the last movie was Charles's, this one is Erik's. His emotional journey, his arc, is the backbone of this movie."
"We find the world's most wanted, most dangerous mutant living off the grid as a human being, in much the way his parents did in Poland," Singer added.
Charles and Raven are still at odds with each other.
"There's a conflict between Raven and Charles, because Charles is living in kind of a blissful world that often the rich do, and it's going well for him," Singer said. "Raven sees a darker world, a world that is not yet fixed. With positive change, you start to also see the negative reactions, with outcry and disdain and other countries passing draconian laws [against mutants]."
Mystique has been saving mutants from enslavement.
"We find Raven - who is known as a hero for preventing a war between two species - living in seclusion," Singer revealed. "She has no interest in fame and notoriety, and because she can transform herself, she can anonymously help disenfranchised mutants all over the world."
X-MEN: APOCALYPSE releases on May 27, 2016.
