Ever since DEADPOOL started production in early 2015 in Vancouver, leading actor Ryan Reynolds has been telling the media that the film has only a fraction of the budget that today's big blockbuster movies have had. According to Variety, the budget for DEADPOOL has officially been revealed to be only a meager $58 million.
This is still a lot of money but nothing compared to THE AVENGERS ($220M), AVENGERS: AGE OF ULTRON ($250M), CAPTAIN AMERICA: THE WINTER SOLDIER ($170M), X-MEN: DAYS OF FUTURE PAST ($200M), MAN OF STEEL ($225M) or even THE DARK KNIGHT ($185M) to name a few. For comparison purposes, ANT-MAN carried the smallest budget for any Marvel Studios films at $130M.
DEADPOOL is receiving a lot of great buzz from initial screenings and critics reviews — it has a 81% score on RottenTomatoes as of the publishing of this post — and opening weekend projections in the U.S. had it in the range of $55-$60 million, two weeks ago. It's up to about $65 million after all the positive reviews for the film.
It seriously looks like Fox has a huge hit on their hands because the film will most likely bring in more than those early projections. Especially if the movie can recoup its entire production budget in its opening weekend in the states.
It's an amazing time to be a Deadpool fan.
