DEADPOOL Interview: Creator Rob Liefeld Talks Meeting Tim Miller and His Bond to Those Who Made the Movie

The Daily SuperHero had a chance to get some questions answered from Deadpool creator Rob Liefeld this week. Produced by Laura Shuler Donner, Simon Kinberg and Ryan Reynolds, directed by Tim Miller and written by Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick DEADPOOL (also created by Fabian Nicieza) is set to hit it big in the box office this weekend.

Liefeld shared some information about when he first met Miller and visited Miller's Blur Studios.

"When Tim Miller called to introduce himself to me in 2010 and very generously invited me to his Blur Studios, I was thrilled. My kids were familiar with all the video game trailers and bumpers he had created, so this was a huge boon to the production to get a guy as visionary as Tim on board, and I was treated to an array of Deadpool visuals that absolutely blew my mind!
"They were so faithful, Tim didn't need the guidance. The costume was then as it is now, 100% faithful to his comic book representation. Much of the freeway sequence was already storyboarded and there were several fully painted renderings of different scenes. It was astonishing. Tim and his team are a talented bunch and I've been dying to share that stuff forever. The amount of art and illustrations they have would make for a really nice, handsome coffee table book."

Then, he took a moment to share his personal attachment to those who made this movie.

"Yeah, well with this film in particular, I had become so attached to the people and the material that I had taken up the campaign and had taken the burden of this movie getting made very personally. Tim Miller had become a friend, Rhett and Paul had become friends, Ryan was my buddy, I knew that this was his perfect role, so watching it be stonewalled by a previous management regime was incredibly disheartening.
"I've been 'Deadpool guy' for 25 years, with or without a film. I've enjoyed him as umpteen action figures, games, merchandise, hundreds of comics, if they never make the film, Deadpool has a proud history, but this script and these filmmakers were sitting on a bold and daring work and I wanted so much for it to succeed for each of them. I could not be more thrilled and I have fought back tears of joy with the fact that this movie went forward and that now that the fans are responding so positively.
"It's very emotional."

Thank you Rob for taking the time to talk.
