DEADPOOL is the Highest Domestic X-MEN Movie Ever With $235 Million and Has Amassed $491 Million Worldwide
Without much competition in its second weekend of release, DEADPOOL dominated the weekend box office. It was so dominate that its estimated $55 million domestic take was well over the second place finisher Kung Fu Panda 3 and its estimated $12 million.
As of right now, DEADPOOL has pulled in a total of just over $235 million in ticket sales in the U.S. which moves it into the top spot on Fox's U.S. box office performer list for X-Men movies. X-MEN: THE LAST STAND has held the top spot since 2006 with $234 million. A very impressive and hugely profitable feat for a film with a relatively small production cost for super hero films at $58 million.
Overseas, DEADPOOL brought in an estimated $85 million bringing its International tally to over $256 million. This brings the worldwide total for DEADPOOL in at $491 million, easily surpassing all of Fox's previous worldwide X-Men movie totals except for X-MEN: DAYS OF FUTURE PAST, which stands at $747 million.
It's unknown if DEADPOOL can catch up to, and potentially surpass, X-MEN: DAYS OF FUTURE PAST but with minimal box office competition until BATMAN V. SUPERMAN releases in late March, there's definitely a good chance DEADPOOL could defy all odds and become Fox's No. 1 grossing X-Men franchise of all-time in the worldwide box office.
[Please note that box office actuals report in on Monday afternoon.]
