Russo Brothers Say CAPTAIN AMERICA: CIVIL WAR Will be "Twice as Aggressive in Tone and Execution"

At Wizard World Cleveland today, Anthony and Joe Russo took the stage in the ballroom of the Cleveland Convention Center along with actor Frank Grillo (Crossbones). While the trio did not reveal any spoilers or insider information about CAPTAIN AMERICA: CIVIL WAR, they did a lot of teasing.

First, earlier in the day, the Russo brothers were a part of another panel with the Greater Cleveland Film Commission and Joe straight up said to not ask about Spider-Man. However, that disclaimer was not issued during their bigger panel later in the day. In fact, Joe jokingly asked a fan who asked him about Spider-Man, "Ever wear underoos?"

Maybe a funny little quip? Maybe a little truth? Who knows because the Russo's were not tipping their hand when it came to revealing anything about the Spidey. Joe did say being able to work with Spider-Man and Black Panther in Civil War is really a dream come true.

The directors, then, teased Civil War's more aggressive nature compared to Cap's last movie.

"We really did a radical reinterpretation of Captain America in Winter Soldier. We were much more aggressive with a little less humor and we shot on handhelds... I'll be honest, for Civil War, with as aggressive as we were with Winter Soldier we are probably twice as aggressive in tone and execution on Civil War."

Changing gears a little bit, there's been a somewhat negative light shined onto Marvel Studios regarding complaints about creativity when working with the studio, but the Russo's haven't seen any creative issues. They even revealed that Disney doesn't seem to interfere much at all with Marvel Studios' process since they deal with Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige 95-percent of the time.

Finally, Joe confirmed to the crowd that there will be 68 characters in AVENGERS: INFINITY WAR, Part I and II. This may sound like a lot but he was quick to add that some appearances will be much larger than others.

"We have to tell a story and that story has to be built around the characters' emotional arcs," Joe Russo said. "And we can only have so many of those [in Infinity War]."

CAPTAIN AMERICA: CIVIL WAR releases on May 6 and the Russo brothers will begin filming AVENGERS: INFINITY WAR, Part I & II sometime in the 4th quarter of this year in Atlanta.
