STAR WARS: THE FORCE AWAKENS is the First U.S. Movie to $900 Million and Third to Break $2 Billion Worldwide
It won't catch Avatar worldwide. And most likely won't catch Titantic in this being its initial theatrical run — there will be re-releases down the road.
STAR WARS: THE FORCE AWAKENS is only the third movie in history to break the $2 billion mark in the worldwide box office. Most impressive.
The film has also become the first movie in the United States to break the $900 million barrier. Which is a commanding lead over second place Avatar by over $140 million.
Star Wars update: Domestic ($906M) Int'l ($1.102B) Worldwide ($2.008B)— Exhibitor Relations (@ERCboxoffice) February 7, 2016
These are just the next milestones on a very long list of box office records and accomplishments STAR WARS: THE FORCE AWAKENS has earned since its release on December 18. Congrats to all.
