None of them more than Mack. In fact, this was, more or less, his episode. The opening of the episode introduced us to Mack brother, who filled the plot’s role in such a cliché manner that I completely forget his name. I understood that their relationship was strained because Mack isn’t really there and whatnot. But the idea that he would sign up with the Watchdogs and become a domestic terrorist was not only cliché, but kind of a stretch.
I feel like Daisy’s opinion on the whole Inhuman cure has gone from zero to a hundred ever since the idea was presented. This made her go all sorts of off the books in order to get information about where the Watchdogs were stationed. She even dragged pour Fitz along, who did nothing but be awkwardly in the way the entire episode. I realize that this was supposed to show that Daisy was going off the chain but it all felt a little ham-fisted.
The whole episode wasn’t that bad though. As usual AGENTS OF SHIELD episodes are parsed into three plot lines. Another one was Simmons working to try and assuage her guilt over what happened in the midseason finale. It was something that had been forgotten about the past few episodes and it’s nice to finally get back around to that. For those who might not remember, Simmons let Lash out of his cage in order to save her from some Hydra soldiers. But he then went on to murder all the other Inhumans that were placed in stasis chambers.
So now she’s partnered up with May in order to track down Lash. For whatever reason Lash is suddenly mid-transition with his powers (I thought that’s what the whole point of terra-genesis was after all). So now there’s a chance that Lash can be cured later on down the road. But May doesn’t want any of that. She wants to kill him. Personally, I hope they go that route.
This episode also saw the return of Agent Blake from the first season of the show as the leader of the Watchdogs. He didn’t really provide a whole lot except that he’s a familiar face. Considering a lot of his time was spent as a hologram, it’s easy to assume that this will be a long running storyline. The mentions of all the events from the Avengers movies makes it clear that we’re building towards the tie-in with Civil War. People are scared, and sooner or later there’s going to be a bubble burst of some kind.
