BATMAN V. SUPERMAN is Tracking For an Estimated $140 Million Domestic and $340M Worldwide Opening and it Still Seems Low
Official studio and industry estimates are coming in for the opening weekend of BATMAN V. SUPERMAN: DAWN OF JUSTICE and while they are big, they may not be high enough to meet the expectations of the DC fanbase.
According to Forbes, BvS is tracking for a domestic opening in the $140 million range even though Warner Bros. has a much more conservative estimate closer to $110 million. The film's worldwide opening estimate is in the $340 million range.
Compared to 2016's hit DEADPOOL, which opened to $132 million domestically and $260 million worldwide, these numbers seem low for a movie that brings together Batman and Superman into a movie for the first time as well as Wonder Woman's big screen debut. MAN OF STEEL opened to $116M, THE DARK KNIGHT opened to $158M and THE DARK KNIGHT RISES opened with $160M; all domestically.
Again, these estimates seem low. Really low, but then again studios like to lowball their own estimates.
Honestly, it seem like BvS should be more in the $160-$170 million domestic range but none of this is an exact science and DEADPOOL proved that as fact after bring in loads of cash last month. Now all we can do is wait until March 25.
