BATMAN V. SUPERMAN Ticket Pre-sales Are Reportedly on Pace With THE DARK KNIGHT RISES

Just about two weeks ago, the first tracking numbers for the opening of BATMAN V. SUPERMAN: DAWN OF JUSTICE hit and it was projected to open with an estimated $140 million domestically and between $300-$340M worldwide. These numbers are still pretty much in place, as of the publishing of this post. Now, according to Deadline, the film's ticket pre-sales are in-line with THE DARK KNIGHT RISES.

Pre-sales for BvS went on sale February 29 and are estimated to be in the $20-$25M range right now, which are similar to the pre-sales for Christopher Nolan's third Batman film at a similar point in its pre-sale timeframe and, per this report, slightly better than THE AVENGERS. The current record holder for biggest March domestic opening goes to The Hunger Games which opened to $152M. THE DARK KNIGHT RISES opened with $160M, domestically, and THE AVENGERS opened to $207M.

BATMAN V. SUPERMAN has been tough to predict and while it's unlikely to have as big of a shocking opening that DEADPOOL had last month, it seems like BvS should easily beat the opening numbers of THE DARK KNIGHT RISES since this movie has Batman, Superman and the first big screen appearance of Wonder Woman. Whether it can achieve a $200M opening remains to be seen though.

This movie needs to be considered as being somewhat risky mainly due to its reported $250M production cost; and add another $150-$200M for all of its marketing costs. The launching pad for Warner Bros. and DC Films' super hero movie universe has a lot is riding on it and it really needs to open to at least the $160M THE DARK KNIGHT RISES opened to.

The pressure for this movie to perform big in the box office is real, simply because of the high costs to make and promote it.
