Choose Wisely in Summer 2017 as Disney's D23 Expo Appears to be Taking on San Diego Comic-Con in July

This shouldn't come as a shocker to anyone who has been going to San Diego Comic-Con International the last few summers as Marvel Studios' presence there — not Marvel Comics, by the way — has become smaller to the point where last summer the studio giant didn't have their highly anticipated Hall H presentation for fans.

This was due to several factors: (1.) There wasn't much anything new to show at SDCC 2015 as AVENGERS: AGE OF ULTRON had already released months prior. (2.) ANT-MAN released the same weekend as SDCC. And (3.) CAPTAIN AMERICA: CIVIL WAR wasn't at the point of showing any new footage until several weeks later at Disney's every-other-year D23 Expo last August.

Speaking of Disney's D23 Expo, the entertainment company has officially announced 2017's D23 Expo will occur in Anaheim on July 14-16 next summer. Shockingly enough, it seems like Disney is trying to steal some of the thunder from SDCC as the world's biggest pop culture event takes place a week later in San Diego.

Crazy? Yes. Strategic? Probably.

This means fans who can only afford the prices and time away from their job have to choose either to go to the D23 Expo or to SDCC 2017. A pretty big blow to SDCC since Marvel Studios has been such a huge draw every summer.

Now this doesn't mean Marvel Studios isn't attending SDCC 2017 — that is too far in advance to be certain right now — but the writing is on the wall that Disney wants to reveal Marvel Studios news their way, and on their terms at the D23 Expo.

The problem now is that fans have to choose and choose wisely next summer... go to Anaheim to see all the Disney, Pixar, Marvel Studios and Lucasfilm reveals. Or go to SDCC to see Warner Bros., Fox, Sony and all the other non-Disney companies, television networks and other studio reveals.

Or maybe, just maybe, you'll start saving right now to go to Southern California for a 2-week vacation of pop culture awesomeness!
