DAREDEVIL Season 2 Profile: Frank Castle a.k.a. The Punisher

The Punisher, a.k.a. Frank Castle, is an anti-hero whose first appearance was in The Amazing Spider-Man No. 129 (1974) created by Gerry Conway and John Romita, Sr. In this issue, he is after Spider-Man because it was believed that he killed Norman Osborn.

The Punisher began his war on crime after his wife and two children were killed by a mob shootout in New York City while the Castle family was having a picnic in Central Park. Castle survived the attack but was traumatized as a result. He was going to testify to identify the shooters until he realized that the police were connected with the mafia. After that realization, he decided to take matters into his own hands and Frank swore to rid his city of crime; starting with the criminals who killed his family.

A vigilante with Special Forces training, the Punisher is not afraid to do what needs to be done to stop crime. This includes murder, torture, kidnapping and more. He also doesn’t let anyone get in his way as he attempts to put an end to crime. This includes Daredevil in the upcoming Netflix series, DAREDEVIL Season 2. This makes him quite controversial and people question if he is a hero or a murderer.

Despite having no superpowers, he is a former U.S. Marine and an expert at martial arts, stealth, guerrilla warfare and has a wide range of weaponry at his disposable. He is very resourceful and strategic. He has multiple safe houses for himself hidden around NYC along with multiple identities and bank accounts. He takes money from criminals to buy weapons, vehicles and anything else that will help him with his war against crime. His high pain tolerance, short temper and hand-to-hand combat makes him a dangerous foe.

The Punisher wears his iconic skull logo for many reasons. First off, the skull inspires fear in the underworld and to criminals all over New York City. He also wears a bulletproof uniform that protects him from gunfire; his skull helps draw gunfire to his chest where he is protected.

Although the Punisher prefers to work solo — due to the fact that he doesn’t take orders well — he does have the occasional team-up to forward his goal of eliminating crime.

Judging from the trailers, the Punisher will play a big role in the upcoming season of Marvel’s DAREDEVIL. The two heroes will probably collide due to their different views on how to clean up the streets of New York. Daredevil believes in pushing gangsters out, while the Punisher believes in killing them to take them out of the picture forever. The Punisher does what other Marvel heroes refuse to do, making him an intriguing anti-hero. As he says to Daredevil, in the trailer, “You’re just one bad day away from being me.”
