Elektra’s story is a tragic one from the very beginning. When she was little, enemies of her father gunned down her mother while her family was having a vacation on the family yacht. After her mother’s death, Elektra grew close to her father but was psychologically damaged as a result of her mother’s death. She began to hear voices and see images that were not real. This lead to Elektra harming herself and as a result her father sent her away to therapy. During therapy it was discovered that martial arts helped her stabilize and as a result she spent her early life partaking in martial arts.
Just in time for Elektra to begin college, her father was appointed Greek ambassador to the United States. Elektra used this opportunity to attend college in the United States and she ended up going to Columbia University. Coincidentally, this is also where Matt Murdock, aka Daredevil, attended college as well. While at Columbia, Elektra spotted Matt jumping across rooftops and soon learned his identity. The two became close and Matt loved the wild and unpredictable side of her. They started training together and ended up dating for a period of time.
While Matt and Elektra were still dating, terrorists took over Columbia University with hostages. Matt, Elektra and her father were among these hostages. Luckily, Matt and Elektra were able to release the hostages and use their skills to defeat the terrorists. Unfortunately, Elektra’s father was shot by the police in the chaos because they believed he was one of the terrorists. Devastated by her father’s death, Elektra leaves Matt and America. She went to China and became an assassin with the mystical ninja clan, The Hand.
Since then, Elektra and Daredevil’s paths have crossed often in New York City. Matt soon learned that Elektra was a bounty hunter and assassin for hire. Disapproving her of killing ways, Daredevil is usually stopping Elektra from carrying out her assassinations against others, including Ben Urich and Foggy Nelson.
Although Elektra has no powers, she is highly skilled in martial arts, stealth, welding weaponry and assassination. Her trademark weapons are a pair of bladed sai.
Elektra will make her second live action appearance in Season 2 of Marvel and Netflix’s DAREDEVIL. She was mentioned as an Easter egg in Season 1 while Matt is talking about how he dated a Greek girl but it “didn’t work out.” In the past, Elektra has been known to work for the Kingpin, who we saw in Season 1. It is possible the Kingpin is still running operations from jail and hired her to get rid of enemies that are trying to take over Hell’s Kitchen.
From the trailer, Elektra apparently needs Matt’s help and the two are seen fighting together against The Hand. Another possibility is that Elektra was hired to do a job that proved to be too difficult for her so she recruits Matt’s help for her safety. Either way, Elektra will be an interesting addition to the Daredevil cast as the Punisher and Elektra show what Daredevil could have or still can become.
