INDIANA JONES 5 is Coming in 2019 and Disney Should Cast Young Han Solo as Young Indy Too



It's official, INDIANA JONES 5 is coming starring Harrison Ford and helmed by Steven Spielberg. Here's Disney's press release:

"Indiana Jones will return to the big screen on July 19, 2019, for a fifth epic adventure in the blockbuster series. Steven Spielberg, who directed all four previous films, will helm the as-yet-untitled project with star Harrison Ford reprising his iconic role. Franchise veterans Kathleen Kennedy and Frank Marshall will produce. 
"'Indiana Jones is one of the greatest heroes in cinematic history, and we can’t wait to bring him back to the screen in 2019,' said Alan Horn, Chairman, The Walt Disney Studios. 'It’s rare to have such a perfect combination of director, producers, actor and role, and we couldn’t be more excited to embark on this adventure with Harrison and Steven.'"

Some moans can be heard from this news and rightfully so after INDIANA JONES AND THE KINGDOM OF THE CRYSTAL SKULL. Speaking of that last movie, many fans hated it but if you edit out the nuclear explosion part and the swinging through the trees with monkeys part it's a much better movie. (I've done this and it really works better, seriously.)

One thing to note about this new Indy movie is that George Lucas is not mentioned as being a part of it in Disney's press release. Some fans think he was a big issue with the last movie — and he has been cited as being the reason there is an alien presence in the last movie — but honestly, both he and Spielberg are to blame since Spielberg has admitted to coming up with the nuclear explosion part. Just thinking out loud but perhaps Spielberg needs to find a new director for Indy 5 while he sits back and produces, just as he did with JURASSIC WORLD. 

This should be a 'passing of the torch' and it should also be flashback movie with old professor Indy telling a story of an old adventure from his mid-20s to his class of students. And a young actor should be cast to continue the franchise beyond INDIANA JONES 5. Which young actor could play a young Indy is unknown, but Disney is casting for a young Han Solo and it would just make sense to sign-on that actor for Indy movie too. Stranger things have happened in Hollywood when it comes to casting actors and while the standalone Han Solo movie seems to be just a one-and-done movie, the Indy franchise won't be so you need a young actor committed to multiple movies and casting a young Han as a young Indy could be the plan right now seeing as how HAN SOLO: A STAR WARS STORY releases in 2018 and INDIANA JONES 5 comes out the following year.
