J.K. Simmons on Returning to SPIDER-MAN as J. Jonah Jameson: "I'll Never Close the Door on Anything"

One of the greatest decisions in today's Golden Age of super hero and comic book movies was the casting of actor J.K. Simmons as J. Jonah Jameson in Sam Raimi's Spider-Man Trilogy. It was such a perfect casting choice that Simmons continues to voice the role of Jameson for Disney XD's ULTIMATE SPIDER-MAN animated series.

While at the Oscars, Entertainment Tonight caught up with Simmons and asked him about a fan petition calling for the actor's return to the role in Sony and Marvel Studios' SPIDER-MAN reboot into the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

"Doing those movies with Sam was one of the great joys of my career, and it was a super fun character...so I'll never close the door on anything."

Simmons did note that it's just a fan petition and it doesn't have any power of swaying studio heads, however, the fans are a powerful tool in Hollywood. The most recent perfect example of fan influence comes in the form of the DEADPOOL movie, which has been dominating the box office for weeks now. When its test footage leaked online, it was the fans who embraced it so much it helped in aiding Fox's decision to finally move forward with making the movie.

This isn't the first time Simmons has spoke about the potential of returning as Jameson. In January 2015, the actor was on Sirius XM's The Howard Stern Show, via SlashFilm, and he hinted at the possibility.

Stern: Hey, we doing another [Spider-Man] or what?
Simmons: I just heard that we… that’s a possibility.
Stern: Would you do it?
Simmons: Absolutely.

Even though Raimi's Spider-Man Trilogy is not a part of any ongoing movie universe right now, bringing Simmons back to a role that is proven to be perfect for his acting talents is a no-brainer. Hopefully the executives at Sony and Marvel Studios are paying close attention, and agree.

The still untitled SPIDER-MAN movie stars Tom Holland, begins filming this summer and releases on July 7, 2017.
