Yesterday, Spider-Man officially got his reveal into the Marvel Cinematic Universe at the end of the latest CAPTAIN AMERICA: CIVIL WAR trailer. His look is a Silver Age take mixing his first comic book appearance in Amazing Fantasy No. 15 with a bit of comic book artist Alex Ross' Spidey art.
This new look is the seventh live action version of Spidey's suit and here's a look back at all of them.
3 Dev Adam - 1973
First there was this incarnation from this Turkish film. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Spidey Super Stories - 1974
Shorts featured in the PBS series The Electric Company.
THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN TV Series - 1977
A short-lived series only lasting 13 episodes, this TV series made kids of the time (myself included) very excited for the Wall Crawler.
SPIDER-MAN Toei TV Series - 1978
This was a bizarrely weird (and kind of cool) take on Spider-Man mixing elements of Saban's Power Rangers. "Supaidāman" is definitely worth watching if you have the means to find this Japanese series online. This series lasted for 41 episodes, plus a movie!
SPIDER-MAN - 2002
The suit actor Tobey Maguire wore in Sam Raimi's trilogy maintained this look and didn't change much until its threequel.
SPIDER-MAN 3 - 2007
Everyone loves Spidey's black suit and this is the only live action version of it... so far.
AMAZING SPIDER-MAN - 2012
The suit actor Andrew Garfield wore in Sony's reboot attempt to the franchise took some liberties in its highly unique design.
AMAZING SPIDER-MAN 2 - 2014
Widely regarded by the majority of Spider-Man fans as the best looking suit in any live action incarnation of Spidey and the best part of this reboot sequel. It's those big eyes that are reminiscent of comic artist Todd McFarlane's take on the hero and the comic series Ultimate Spider-Man.
CAPTAIN AMERICA: CIVIL WAR - 2016
And this brings us to the reveal of the MCU Spider-Man.
Honorable Mention - SPIDER-MAN - 2002
This look is so classic it'll be hard for Marvel Studios to top the homemade look Peter Parker creates initially. And rumor has it actor Tom Holland will wear a homemade Spider-Man suit at some point in CAPTAIN AMERICA: CIVIL WAR which is why Tony Stark calls him 'Underoos' at the end of the trailer.
