Fox's X-Men movie universe is growing fast. Besides the main X-Men movies, DEADPOOL has been added to its franchise roster after its huge box office success, next year WOLVERINE 3 is be coming out and eventually GAMBIT will start production (maybe). One franchise that's been in development by writer and director Josh Boone is the NEW MUTANTS.
X-Men producer, and overseer of all-thing X-movies for Fox, Simon Kinberg recently spoke with IGN to talk up Boone's NEW MUTANTS movie.
“Josh Boone and his writing partner are working on the script. They're doing a really nice job of it, and it's a really cool one, because in many ways, like Deadpool was so different from the mainline X-Men movies, New Mutants… It’s maybe not as different as Deadpool, but it has its own unique, original voice to it.
"And New Mutants has more of a [Young Adult] vibe to it.”
When it comes to which characters will be included in NEW MUTANTS, Kinberg would not disclose that information as of right now.
“There's a very deep bench. There's a long, long list of names, and I'll tell you some of the names on that list I don't even know. That's how deep it goes.”
Finally, Kinberg teased that members of the New Mutants team could crossover into X-Men movies and/or other X-Men franchise films.
“Traditionally, the New Mutants have some characters that cross over from the mainline X-Men movies. As we are going, I would say it's likely that you will see some familiar faces.”
It seems like Fox is nearing an official announce that NEW MUTANTS is coming out and a release date will be set for it. Stay tuned because now that Kinberg is opening up about the movie, it's only a matter of time until fans know more.
