CAPTAIN AMERICA: CIVIL WAR is Tracking For $175 Million Domestic Opening and Could Go as High as $200M

The summer movie season starts on May 6 when Marvel Studios releases CAPTAIN AMERICA: CIVIL WAR. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the movie is already tracking for a huge domestic opening of $175 million just about three weeks before release.

In case you're not familiar with box office tracking numbers this early, this is already a huge number and early tracking projections usually increase the week before release. In other words, there is a very good chance CAPTAIN AMERICA: CIVIL WAR, which has been getting positive reviews from its earliest screenings, could become only the fourth movie to open in $200M Club joining STAR WARS: THE FORCE AWAKENS ($247M), JURASSIC WORLD ($208M) and THE AVENGERS ($207).

This film's predecessor, CAPTAIN AMERICA: THE WINTER SOLDIER, opened to $95M in 2014 so the addition of Iron Man and all the other Avengers (sans Thor and Hulk) in Civil War, plus the addition to the debuts of Spider-Man and Black Panther, have given Cap a huge bump in box office potential.

Marvel Studios' other big domestic opening include AVENGERS: AGE OF ULTRON ($191M) and IRON MAN 3 ($174M).
