Is This ROGUE ONE: A STAR WARS STORY Character a Repurposed Kyle Katarn From the Expanded Universe?

The ROGUE ONE: A STAR WARS STORY trailer is finally here and you can check out 10 GIFs from it here.

Now it's time to speculate. The purpose of this post is to guess who actor Diego Luna might be playing. He's the guy in the above screenshot seen at the beginning of the trailer who doesn't have a line of dialogue during the scene with Mon Mothma.

As most Star Wars fans know, since Disney acquired Lucasfilm, all of the previous Expanded Universe (EU) content is no longer official Star Wars canon. However, Disney and Lucasfilm can (and will) repurpose any and all of the old EU canon into official canon and ROGUE ONE might have some of this and maybe with Luna's mystery character.

So who could Luna be?

Luna might be an adapted and repurposed version of Kyle Katarn. The look is consistent between these two characters as you can see in the image of Katarn below.

Before you try to deny this speculative claim, yes it is known that it's been said there won't be any Jedi or lightsaber action in ROGUE ONE. But this could be Lucasfilm wants to keep secrets until the movie releases later this year and no different than the much assumed appearance of Darth Vader at some point in ROGUE ONE. And maybe this adapted version of Katarn might not be a Force-user at all in this movie.

The biggest reason to guess that Luna might be a newly adapted Katarn, besides the similar appearance, is the fact that in the EU canon Katarn is the one who steals the plans for the Death Star in the video game STAR WARS: DARK FORCES. This first-person shooter game was released in 1995.

We will find out soon enough if Luna is some version of Katarn as ROGUE ONE releases on December 16.
