There is no need to think about making IRON MAN 4 when actor Robert Downey Jr. seems more than happy to appear in other Marvel Cinematic Universe movies instead. According to The Hollywood Reporter Downey has re-negotiated his Marvel Studios contract so he will now appear in next summer's SPIDER-MAN: HOMECOMING.
Although it is not certain if he will appear as just Tony Stark and/or as Iron Man, but it seems logical to include both. Right?
This is not the first time the actor has re-negotiated his contact and he had to in order to appear in next month's CAPTAIN AMERICA: CIVIL WAR as well as both AVENGERS: INFINITY WAR films. Last week, on Jimmy Kimmel Live!, Downey teased he might join the next Spider-Man movie roster but he needed a new deal with Marvel first. Today, that is apparently a done deal.
With Tony Stark / Iron Man now joining SPIDER-MAN: HOMECOMING it is also being reported that the story line of Spider-Man's introduction in CAPTAIN AMERICA: CIVIL WAR will continue to be followed in Spidey's movie since he is recruited by Tony Stark to be on Team Iron Man. And you can bet there will be plenty of rumors claiming Stark could build Peter Parker the Iron Spider suit.
Finally some bad news as actor Michael Keaton is reportedly out of the running as a villain in SPIDER-MAN: HOMECOMING, per Deadline. Keaton was up for the unconfirmed villain role of Vulture but Sony and Marvel Studios will continue their search for what is assumed to be a different big name actor for the role.
SPIDER-MAN: HOMECOMING begins filming this summer and releases on July 7, 2017.
