WOLVERINE 3 will take place in the future timeline of Fox's many different X-Men movie universe timelines. (Don't forget that Deadpool hates all these timelines, and rightfully so.)
While speaking with CinemaBlend, producer Simon Kinberg confirmed it.
"The Wolverine movie takes place in the future."
The timeline for this movie should have been obvious when actor Patrick Stewart said he will reprise his role as Charles Xavier in WOLVERINE 3 back in August 2015. Then, in September 2015, Hugh Jackman told the media how WOLVERINE 3 will explore the relationship between Logan and Xavier.
In other words, it's been known since last summer that WOLVERINE 3 would take pace in the future timeline. Why the need to confirm this is unknown, but alas it has been confirmed. So it's this week's biggest non-story story.
Many claims have been made that WOLVERINE 3 will have its story basis from the comic book story line 'Old Man Logan,' which is set in the future. This will be Jackman's last turn as Logan and THE WOLVERINE director James Mangold is back at the helm.
WOLVERINE 3 begins filming in the coming month, or two, and releases on March 3, 2017.
