But I digress. The episode itself was pretty good for the most part. There was a lot of lab work going on this episode, but it was all in the name of progress. While SHIELD was busy looking into a potential Hive cure; Hive himself was looking into a potential cure for being human (so to speak). His goal was not to use the crystals as a means of making Inhumans, but to use the crystals as a catalyst to recreate the experiment that created him.
Speaking of which, did anyone else think that the Kree Reapers were a little low budget looking? I wasn’t expecting them to look like Ronan from Guardians of the Galaxy, but they didn’t even look like hunters for the most part. That said, watching the Kree hunter beat the crap out of Hive was pretty fun to watch. I have to wonder though why Hive didn’t just rip the skin straight off the hunter in the first place though…
Getting back on the track though, we continued the adventures of how gory AGENTS OF SHIELD can get while staying in the 9 p.m. time slot. This time we got an Indiana Jones-esque melting of the face. It was quite a sight, that’s for sure. I wonder what’s made those behind the show want to go this far with the gory and violence.
This episode played a lot with the theme of duality. Hive feared the Kree, while Mac and Coulson feared that Daisy would be lost forever. Both Hive and Daisy had to go up against those who “made” them. Experiments were run on both sides. Both groups went on missions, and both of those missions failed. It was interesting to see how both sides were similar, and yet (obviously) so different.
The only things that really bothered me were Mac’s inability to accept that Daisy is/has problem, and Lincoln. I get where Mac was coming from, but why did he have to take the cliché’ route of going in after her and disobeying a direct order? That said, the scene between them was great and watching Daisy use her powers to almost kill him was an awesome way to move her character forward.
Then there’s Lincoln, who has reached boneheaded levels of uselessness. The idiot injected himself with something that could kill him, and in the end it was all for nothing. So instead we had to endure him whining about Daisy the entire episode. I’ve never bought them as a couple and him pining after like this doesn’t help. In fact, I think that Chloe Bennet has much better chemistry with Axle Whitehead (James).
Overall, the episode definitely continued the story forward as Hive works towards transforming the entire world into Inhumans. Now it’s time to see what manages to come out of thin air in order to give SHIELD the advantage they need in order to save the day.
