In the past week (ish) two director names have come up as being rumored to be meeting with Disney and Marvel to possibly helm Marvel Studios' CAPTAIN MARVEL movie.
One rumor is that director Emily Carmichael recently posted on her Instagram page that she was meeting with Disney. Since the rumor hit the web, as first noticed by the blog ScreenGeek, Carmichael edited her Instagram caption to remove the meeting with Disney part. Meeting with Disney could lead to the Marvel Studios director gig, or it might just be a meeting for a Walt Disney Studios directing gig, too.
The newest rumor is from the site WeGotThisCovered who claim that indie filmmaker Elizabeth Wood has met with Marvel allegedly for CAPTAIN MARVEL. The site writes:
"...[O]ur sources are telling us that a private meeting was held last week between Marvel representatives and independent filmmaker Elizabeth Wood in order to discuss potential directorial duties. It’s believed that the meeting was brokered by Wood’s producer-husband, Gabriel Nussbaum, with whom Wood has worked on all her professional projects."
These are the first two director names mentioned for this film since last year when rumors ran wild online stating Angelina Jolie might be in contention for the director seat. Carmichael and Wood are lesser known filmmakers, comparatively speaking to Jolie, and this falls more in-line with how Marvel has recently chosen some of their directors who are not well-known, like SPIDER-MAN: HOMECOMING director Jon Watts, or whose name is beginning to rise in the film industry, like BLACK PANTHER Director Ryan Coogler.
Studio head Kevin Feige has confirmed that by the end of this summer there will be official announcements made for CAPTAIN MARVEL, so stay tuned.
CAPTAIN MARVEL releases on March 8, 2019.
