While Marvel Studios is enjoying success that took them eight years to build-up to, Warner Bros. and DC Films are taking much needed steps to adapt and improve themselves along with way with their growing DC Extended Universe (DCEU).
You've probably read enough of the posts about alleged closed door issues with the creatives of the DCEU, but the studios are reportedly bettering themselves by adding the title of executive producer to actor Ben Affleck's role in JUSTICE LEAGUE. Originally, Affleck was just going to be an actor reprising his role as Bruce Wayne and Batman in the DC ensemble movie, but changes are taking place according to The Hollywood Reporter.
THR writes:
"Ben Affleck, who is already starring in Justice League as Batman, will now act as an executive producer on Warners’ mega-comic book that is already in production, The Hollywood Reporter has confirmed.
"Zack Snyder is directing the movie but the move legitimizes Affleck as a creative voice in the moviemaking process.
The actor-turned-filmmaker will work with Chris Terrio, his screenwriter from Argo and Batman v. Superman, to fine tune the script and he will also inform the post-production process, according to sources."
This seems to be a move that is a direct result of the lackluster reviews for BATMAN V. SUPERMAN: DAWN OF JUSTICE as well as the highly plausible notion that the film won't even top $900 million in the worldwide box office. Reports and rumors have claimed Warner Bros. expected this movie to easily hit the $1 billion mark. And honestly, it should have since it was the first time Batman and Superman shared the big screen together as well as Wonder Woman's official movie debut.
Warner Bros. execs seem to be displeased with director Zack Snyder's darker vision for the DCEU and giving Affleck more powerful creative voice in the DCEU should only help JUSTICE LEAGUE and the rest of the DCEU films moving forward. At least on paper it should.
JUSTICE LEAGUE is currently filming in London and releases on November 17, 2017.
