LEGION Creator Noah Hawley Updates FX's X-Men Spin-Off TV Series

It's been a few months since we've last heard about the X-Men spin-off television series LEGION. Back in February, it was announced that FX had ordered a pilot episode and the main cast and characters in LEGION were confirmed by Marvel (see post link below).

LEGION will feature actor Dan Stevens in the role of the mutant David Haller, who is Professor Charles Xavier's son in the comic book universe.

Series creator Noah Hawley teased the hopeful series, which starting filming its pilot eipsode in March. VanityFair writes:

"Listening to him talk about Legion, which FX may or may not pick up to series, it’s clear he’s got a revolutionary take on a well-worn genre. The titular hero, Legion, has ties to the X-Men film franchise (he’s Professor X’s son), but what Hawley intends to bring to the screen has no resemblance to the big-budget X-Men: Apocalypse debuting this weekend. Legion is a mentally ill character with a dissociative identity disorder that allows each of his personas to control one of his many superpowers. In Hawley’s mind, that means the possibilities are endless.
"How does he intend to avoid that formula with his own take on the comic-book world? David Lynch might be the key. 'I always feel like the structure of a story should reflect the content of the story. If the story, as in this case, is about a guy who is either schizophrenic or he has these abilities, i.e., he doesn’t know what’s real and what’s not real, then the audience should have the same experience.' Hawley says he’s aiming for a 'more existential exploration' and 'surreal or dreamlike quality where it’s not just about running and kicking. There’s, whatever, 9,000 superhero stories right now. They’ve got all the running and kicking covered. I think my goal with this is to do something whimsical and imaginative and unexpected. Not just because I want to do something different, but because it feels like the right way to tell this story.'"

Hawley also issued a update at where the pilot episode it at in production.

“We shot a pilot and I’m cutting it together now...”

Once the pilot is ready to be shown to FX executives only then will a decision be made if the network will bring LEGION to series. And that should be happening soon.

Official synopsis:

"Since he was a teenager, David has struggled with mental illness. Diagnosed as schizophrenic, David has been in and out of psychiatric hospitals for years. But after a strange encounter with a fellow patient, he’s confronted with the possibility that the voices he hears and the visions he sees might be real."
