Harley Quinn and the Joker are the two most eagerly anticipated characters in SUICIDE SQUAD, but one thing that hasn't come up (until now) is their respective laughs in the movie. The Joker laugh has been done in past movies, so coming up with something new, unique and original was going to be tough for Jared Leto. But Harley's laugh has never been portrayed before on the big screen.
Margot Robbie spoke with the website Oyster, who reported the following about her laugh as Harley Quinn.
"For the role of Harley Quinn she came up with as many laughs as personalities, from a low warning giggle to a demented snigger to, most terrifyingly, a silent and open-mouthed jeer. The night before our interview I watch the trailer three times, and by the time I get to breakfast the only character I can remember in it is hers."
As far as Leto and his Joker laugh, the actor disclosed his creation process to CNBC, via Time, and to say it was creepy is most definitely an understatement.
“I worked on the laugh walking around the streets of New York and Toronto, and I kinda would walk around the streets and see what laughs would get under people’s skin. You know when you hear someone laugh at a restaurant? It’s a little jarring. I tried them out. And I kind of got to a place where I would laugh and people are always turning around like, ‘Who is this creepy guy behind me?'”
SUICIDE SQUAD releases on August 5.
