Why the Rumor of Kingpin Being in SPIDER-MAN: HOMECOMING Never Had a Chance

"Don't believe everything you read online."

It's a phrase you've most definitely heard some version of... and for good reason.

In today's age of the Internet anyone has the ability to create their own blog / site through content management platforms like Blogger or WordPress. Because of this the rumor mill is bigger than ever before. One of the easiest ways to figure out what blog or site's so-called scoops are real is if the biggest sites, blogs and news outlets also cover the rumor.

However, some sites have built a name for themselves by posting so many rumors over the years that some of those actually came true. So they now get some traction across the 'Net even though their batting average for being correct is 50-50, at best. It's a fine line that online readers have to navigate when it comes to what to believe and what not to believe.

The latest wild rumor came from a source never heard of before and honestly it's not worth linking over there because the rumor has already been debunked.

The claim was that actor Vincent D'Onofrio would reprise his role as Kingpin from Netflix's DAREDEVIL series in SPIDER-MAN: HOMECOMING. A fan-favorite, for sure, but a rumor without much convincing in actually becoming true.

The biggest issue with this rumor is that none of Netflix's Marvel actors have made any appearance in any movie since the streaming service first premiered DAREDEVIL Season 1, over a year ago. The most logical time you would have seen any of the Netflix heroes in a feature film would have been in CAPTAIN AMERICA: CIVIL WAR and none were in it. Not even Daredevil who would've been the first go-to hero to have to choose Team Iron Man or Team Cap.

There's been a lot reported over the past few months how the "It's all connected" tagline of the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) is no longer a thing because besides, at most, a single line of dialogue in the television series and streaming shows tries to connect them. There's been no actual evidence the movies connect to these shows either. There's never been any mention of the TV shows and Netflix shows in any MCU movie.

So this is why a rumor about Kingpin appearing in SPIDER-MAN: HOMECOMING never had a chance, especially when none of the biggest sites and outlets even bothered to cover this rumor. A telling sign when today's media will do anything and everything to get as many click-throughs and page hits as they can to increase ad revenue streams.

Then there's the fact that D'Onofrio debunked this rumor on Twitter.

The real point here is to watch what you believe. Sure you can get excited about the prospect of a rumor, but when you don't see other sites pick up the story then it's unlikely to have any weight to it at all.
