Chris Hemsworth Teases THOR: RAGNAROK Tonal Shift As Well As a New World to Explore

The term "game changer" is overused in sports just as much as movies described as being "grounded and gritty." But sometimes you just have to overuse these terms and this is the case with THOR: RAGNAROK. It needs to be a game changer for the Thor franchise which is in need of a big lift to keep up with the Avengers, Iron Man and Captain America franchises.

With CAPTAIN AMERICA: CIVIL WAR now out in theaters, Marvel Studios has released 13 films in their Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU). Both THOR and THOR: THE DARK WORLD box office grosses are in the bottom half of the list for all 13 MCU movies, worldwide. THOR: THE DARK WORLD ranks seventh with $644 million worldwide and THOR is at No. 11 with $449M.

Thor needs a boost in his third film which is a big reason why Marvel Studios brought together a tremendous cast for THOR: RAGNAROK including returning stars Chris Hemsworth and Tom Hiddleston as Thor and Loki, respectively. As well as newcomers Cate Blanchett (Hela), Jeff Goldblum (Grandmaster), Tessa Thompson (Valkyrie) and Karl Urban (Skurge the Executioner) plus Sir Anthony Hopkins (Odin) and Idris Elba (Heimdall) have also been confirmed and it's looking like Jaimie Alexander (Sif) will show up as well.

Oh... and a Hulk. "We have a Hulk," as Mark Ruffalo is bringing Bruce Banner and his green rage monster to the Nine Realms.

Director Taika Waititi brings a tonal shift to the Thor franchise with some humor and while at Wizard World Philly, via ComicBook, Hemsworth teased the new tone of this movie.

"I think tonally it's a big shift in a great way, more than anything we've seen before. Taika Waititi, the director, if you know any of his work... he's just an incredible sort of comedic talent... a lot of heart in everything he does... but you know there's a, it's a very different Thor. It's a different Loki, I think there's a... we go off on another world that we haven't experienced before. It's fun you know... but that's me skirting around the issue because I can't say too much."

Hemsworth says enough to invoke real optimism for a fun Nine Realms road trip movie through the cosmos of the MCU.

THOR: RAGNAROK begins filming this summer in Australia and releases on November 3, 2017.
