Where there is smoke there is usually fire and this seems to be the case with ROGUE ONE: A STAR WARS STORY and its reshoots next month. Earlier this week rumor hit stating ROGUE ONE was undergoing reshoots in July because Disney executives were unhappy with an early cut of the movie. This turned out to be a bit of sensationalism as Hollywood trade sites followed-up and reported reshoots were happening but not because of studio exec anger.
Another rumor report has emerged, from MakingStarWars. Due to rewrites happening during principle photography, director Gareth Edwards could only shoot so much.
Again, reshoots are always scheduled for big budget tentpole movies so this is nothing to worry about, although this new rumor report sounds like intense reshoots will most definitely take place.
Here's bullet points from the latest reshoots rumor:
- Co-writer Christopher McQuarrie will aid in reshoots so both he and director Edwards are on the same page during them.
- McQuarrie's latest script is superior than all previous drafts and was recently completed and he has been consistently tweaking the script since the end of principle photography.
- An alleged eight weeks of reshoots will take place and crews will be working six days a week to reshoot approximately 40-percent of the movie.
- All parties involved in this film are more than happy to go back for these extensive reshoots to make this movie the best it can be when released in December.
- The reshoots are longer than planned but everyone involved is on board.
So, in the end, it sounds like a lot of work is needed on ROGUE ONE. But the commitment to make the first Star Wars standalone movie a hit is most definitely there and nobody seems to be angry at putting in the extra work. Had all of this been realized this fall instead of right now would have meant panic mode, but there's still time.

"If there are any reshoots on Rogue One, I’m not supervising them. For any outlet to say so is not only wrong, it’s irresponsible. Gareth Edwards is a talented filmmaker who deserves the benefit of the doubt. Making a film – let alone a Star Wars chapter – is hard enough without the internet trying to deliberately downgrade one’s years of hard work. Who does that even serve? Let him make his movie in peace."
ROGUE ONE releases on December 16.
