At the end of X-MEN: APOCALYPSE you get a glimpse of Jean Grey's powerful Phoenix power. Whether or not Jean's greater power will be featured in the next X-Men ensemble movie or not remains to be seen, however, there's already been reports that the next movie will take basis in 'The Dark Phoenix Saga' comic book story arc.
But before the Dark Phoenix comes into play, Sophie Turner would look to be a protagonist and show how powerful Jean Grey can become as the Phoenix before turning over to the dark side. Here's what Turner told USAToday:

“It’s kind of set up for it in (Apocalypse) — you see hints of Phoenix. And it’s really exciting that we’re kind of exploring this good Phoenix at the moment and we’re not doing the Dark Phoenix. There are so many ways we can go with the character, and with these super-strong powers that she has, they should make a Dark Phoenix saga. (But) let’s hope I’ll be a good superhero for a while.”
Fox, producer/writer Simon Kinberg and perhaps even director Bryan Singer going back to tell a better Dark Phoenix story than seen in X-MEN: THE LAST STAND is inevitable, yet it shouldn't be rushed. Giving the Phoenix a movie to spotlight her powerful abilities should be considered first. But that's just our take.
