Two Names Added to the CAPTAIN MARVEL Director Want List

Back in April, Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige confirmed that casting and director announcements for CAPTAIN MARVEL would be coming no later than the end of this summer. It's also widely assumed that if Marvel Studios is back in Hall H for their big San Diego Comic-Con presentation next month, CAPTAIN MARVEL reveals will occur at that time.

So word hit the web hard yesterday that Oscar winner Brie Larson has become the front runner for the leading role as Carol Danvers / Captain Marvel, it makes sense to assume a possible SDCC reveal could happen next month. And this also makes sense when The Hollywood Reporter is now citing its sources for two potential director names.

According to THR, Niki Caro and Jennifer Kent are said to be contenders to helm CAPTAIN MARVEL. Caro and Kent are not the first directors to be reportedly in contention though. Previously, Emily Carmichael and Elizabeth Wood have also been rumored to possibly be targeted for this movie.

In case you're not familiar with who Carol Danvers is in the comics, she was originally Ms. Marvel who recently became Captain Marvel. Danvers is an Air Force pilot who is exposed to alien DNA and she acquires super-strength, flight and the ability to project energy from her hands. She’s also a highly respected hero in the Marvel universe since she is not only one of the most powerful heroes, but she gets the same level of respect from her peers as Captain America gets.

CAPTAIN MARVEL is currently in development by writers Meg LeFauve and Nicole Perlman and releases is March 8, 2019.
