AGENTS OF SHIELD Season 4: Rumor Mill is Churning Out Possible GHOST RIDER Appearance

It was only a matter of time until the rumor mill kicked into gear when it was revealed that one of the San Diego trolley skins for AGENTS OF SHIELD has a fiery chain on it. It was a cue for the rumor mill to start churning out some Ghost Rider stuff and that's exactly what's happening now.

According to ComicBook, a casting notice has hit for Season 4 of AGENTS OF SHIELD that potentially reveals the inclusion of Ghost Rider in the ABC show. But before you think that Ghost Rider is too violent and too dark for the Disney-owned network series, this is not the Johnny Blaze version as seen on the big screen, with actor Nic Cage, and this could be based off the 2014 'Marvel NOW! Ghost Rider' comic book.

In that comic title there are two brothers, Robbie and Gabe Reyes. The latter is disabled while the former is a mechanic who deeply cares for his handicapped brother. The alleged casting notice is looking for a pair of Latino brothers with one being "the most dangerous person in the room" and the other being "paralyzed in a wheelchair." While it's quite a leap to assume this might be referring to bringing a version of Ghost Rider — remember there are many versions of Ghost Rider in the comics — to AGENTS OF SHIELD, there are definitely similarities to the characters in the casting notice and in the 2014 comic book.

In the comics, Robbie Reyes gained the power of Ghost Rider after entering a street race to earn enough money to move him and his brother to a better neighborhood. During the race, Robbie was pursued by who he thought were cops so tried to escape them since he didn't want to get arrested because he was worried about who would take care of his disabled brother. Unfortunately it was a hit squad who killed Robbie. Unbeknownst to Robbie the 1969 Dodge Charger he drove in the race was possessed by a ghost and when killed the ghost inhabited Robbie granting him the power of Ghost Rider. Again, this is all rumor and speculation right now but it would certainly be cool to see AGENTS OF SHIELD bring a version of Ghost Rider to TV because the show needs a popular hero to give its ratings a bump. Especially since Season 4 will air in ABC's dreaded 10 p.m. slot where most shows go to die and get canceled.

AGENTS OF SHIELD Season 4 premieres on ABC on September 20 at 10 p.m. ET.
