Pitch to Marvel Studios: SQUIRREL GIRL Could be the Hero Who Brings Back One-Shot Short Films

Do you miss Marvel Studios' One-Shot short films which used to be exclusively on their Blu Ray releases?

Of course you do!

Last October, studio head Kevin Feige said to Screen Rant that he would love to get back into shooting One-Shots.

“We talk about that a lot actually, because when you have tables like that (lots of potential storylines, most unexplored in the finished film), and we go, What are we going to do with Howard [the Duck]? What are we going to do with Cosmo? We should do a one shot with Michael Pena. I mean, the universe is big. We’re moving up to three movies a year and I’m not sure how much beyond that we can go so the one shots are great for: ‘oh we have this great idea, wouldn’t it be fun to see…’ We talk about it a lot. We’re a relatively small team. We’re comfortable doing three movies a year so it’s just about finding the time and the place. But we have a backlog of ideas.”

As of the publishing of this post, nothing has come of Feige's comments since he made them last fall. So here's our pitch for Marvel Studios to bring back the One-Shot: Produce a SQUIRREL GIRL short film.

This could be a fun 15 (ish) minute short film to test the waters of bringing back the One-Shot concept. Not only is it a great way to introduce lesser-known Marvel heroes but it could be a good way to gauge which lesser-known heroes might deserve their own solo movies in the future, too.

In fact, there is some interest in the acting community for the role. Several days ago, Anna Kendrick told the website Net-a-Porter that she would love to play the role of Doreen Green, a.k.a. Squirrel Girl. This revelation came to her after her brother sent her a copy of a Squirrel Girl comic book.

“My brother sent me a Squirrel Girl comic because he thinks I should [play her]. I don’t know what Squirrel Girl does other than be half squirrel, but I could be half squirrel!”

And as the Internet does with these types of stories it made the rounds to many websites and blogs, especially when online Photoshop artist BossLogic produced an image of Kendrick as Squirrel Girl.
