Star Wars Celebration: EPISODE VIII Doesn't Get a Title Yet But Confirmed to Pick Up Right After THE FORCE AWAKENS
Star Wars episodic tradition is to have a time jump between each new movie episode. At Star Wars Celebration Europe, STAR WARS EPISODE VIII writer/director Rian Johnson confirmed to the crowd that Episode VIII will break that tradition as it picks up right where STAR WARS: THE FORCE AWAKENS left off.
"For the first time, we're breaking Star Wars tradition and starting our movie right where the last one left off."
So this means the film starts on the secluded island where Rey found Luke Skywalker, who has been in hiding since Ben Solo changed into Kylo Ren and killed all of Luke's Jedi trainees.
"Skellig Michael [in Ireland] is an incredibly mystical place. To be there and have that be the first thing we were shooting [for Episode VIII] was an appropriately surreal way to start everything off."
Lastly, no official title for Episode VIII was revealed at Celebration this weekend, but Episode VIII is confirmed to have a huge presence at Star Wars Celebration Orlando next April.
STAR WARS EPISODE VIII has wrapped filming, is in post-production and releases on December 15, 2017.
