There's been some bits of news, and a rumor, coming out for SPIDER-MAN: HOMECOMING over the past few days and we've gathered it all up and put it into this one post to get you up-to-date with all of it.
How SPIDER-MAN: HOMECOMING Will Mirror the Harry Potter Movies
“Should we be able to make more after that? Sure. This is sophomore year, is the next one junior year? Is the next one senior year? Is there a summer break between each of those? I don’t know what, but it was sort of how do we do a journey for Peter not dissimilar for what the students of Hogwarts would go through each of their years, which was one of the early ideas we had for the movies.”
Why (and How) the Vulture was Choosen as the Villain
Feige, also, did some teasing about the film's villain, who was revealed in the concept art above. First here's what he said to Collider about Vulture:
“That had been done in I think every prior Spider-Man film. Part of the fun of joining the cinematic universe, joining a world in which he now knows Tony Stark personally, has received a suit full of many things we haven’t seen yet that Stark Industries has supplied, it made sense to—cause that’s sort of the Marvel Cinematic Universe grounded nature is it is much more technologically based. In a world where Falcon flies around with a beautiful set of wings, it made sense that we had Vulture have technical origins.”
Then, he did some more teasing to ComicBook:
"Well, we wanted to sort of go back to the origins of what made Spider-Man and Peter Parker so unique you know, and that’s why we just sort of really doubled down on the idea that he is a kid. He is a high school student in this crazy universe. He has to keep his identity a secret, which a lot of the other characters in the MCU don’t, um, and just, in general, going back to those origins ya know. The Vulture is really the first supervillain that Spider-Man ever fights in Amazing Spider-Man, the second issue, after the chameleon, so it just felt like the right thing to do, to go back to the roots in that way.
"We talked about a lot of different things but The Vulture always sort of rose to the top and just the opportunity to have Spider-Man versus a guy that can fly really lends itself to some pretty cool visuals."
How SPIDER-MAN: HOMECOMING is a Look at the "Ground Floor" of the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU)
Feige said this to ComicBook:
"I think of it as the ground floor. If the Avengers Tower is the penthouse and we know what it’s like to be a millionaire, billionaire playboy to be Tony or we know what it’s like to be a God on another planet, that’s the penthouse level of the MCU. Spider-Man is the ground floor. What does a high school in the MCU look like? What does riding the subway in the MCU feel like? Spider-Man seems like the most perfect opportunity because he’s the most regular person in the canon that I thought he was a great chance to show what that angle of the MCU feels like."
Will There be an Avenger (Cameo) Besides Tony Stark / Iron Man?
According to the Twitter account AtlantaFilming, a certain Scarlett (Johansson?) made an appearance in Atlanta. It is possible she just showed up to check out some Spidey scenes or maybe she's going to make a quick appearance (or cameo) in the movie. Nothing has been confirmed beyond this tweet:
Well, well... hi Scarlett. What'cha doing here?— Atlanta Filming (@AtlantaFilming) July 27, 2016
SPIDER-MAN: HOMECOMING releases on July 7, 2017.
