In GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY, Marvel fans were introduced to a new Infinity Stone. Peter Quill, a.k.a. Star-Lord (who?!), begins the film in search of an Orb which turns out to be the Power Stone. After getting the Power Stone back from Ronan, the Guardians gave it to Nova Corps to protect from evil-doers.
Unfortunately, Thanos is now on his mission to retrieve all six of the Infinity Stones so he's eventually going to go head-to-head with the Nova Corps possibly in AVENGERS: INFINITY WAR. The next Avengers movie will mostly likely tell the story of who Thanos is in the Marvel Cinematic Universe and it will probably tell the story of Thanos acquiring all six Infinity Stone for his Infinity Gauntlet glove you saw him put on in the credits scene of AVENGERS: AGE OF ULTRON.
This brings us to next year's GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY VOL. 2 which, according to writer and director James Gunn on his Facebook page, will not have the next Infinity Stone.
So there you go. No Infinity Stone in GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY VOL. 2.
To quickly recap all the Infinity Stones revealed in the MCU so far we have the Tesseract (Space Stone) which is in the Asgard Vault, the Ether (Reality Stone) which is in the possession of The Collector, the Mind Stone in Vision's head and the Orb (Power Stone) which is with Nova Corps. This leaves two Infinity Stones remaining to be revealed: the Time Stone and the Soul Stone.
GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY VOL. 2 releases on May 5, 2017.
