Through all the negative reviews, muddied story and questionable editing SUICIDE SQUAD has amassed over $700 million in the worldwide box office. One of the shining stars in the film was Margot Robbie as Harley Quinn and everyone is still buzzing about her.
Back in May, news hit the web that Robbie was developing a HARLEY QUINN spin-off movie that would feature many of DC's female characters. She worked with a writer and they presented the project to Warner Bros.
The studio liked it so much, now, according to The Hollywood Reporter, Robbie and her production company, LuckyChap Entertainment, have signed a first-look deal with the studio. And she will serve as an executive producer on her HARLEY QUINN spin-off. Robbie's production company will help to produce the spin-off which is still in its development stage and does not have any timeframe set for filming or release at this time.
This is big news because not only does it confirm our report from right before SUICIDE SQUAD was released — stating the studio was waiting on the reception of Harley Quinn before moving forward with her spin-off — it also shows Warner Bros. is capitalizing on the success of SUICIDE SQUAD.
This is a big opportunity to bring more strong female DC characters to the forefront of the DC Extended Universe of films along with next summer's WONDER WOMAN.
