Despite receiving bad reviews, having a muddled plot and being poorly edited movie, SUICIDE SQUAD has had legs in its first month of release. In fact, after its extended Labor Day weekend estimates are in it has officially surpassed a hero who was once the greatest and most popular super hero known to mankind... Superman.
SUICIDE SQUAD has officially passed MAN OF STEEL with its domestic and worldwide box office totals.
This past weekend, the villain ensemble movie took in an estimated $10 million in domestic ticket sales for the 3-day weekend and $12.8M for the 4-day holiday weekend tally. The domestic total for SUICIDE SQUAD is now at $300.2M which puts it ahead of the $291M that MAN OF STEEL took in.
Overseas, the movie took in an additional $11.8M bringing its International total to $375.5M which is right behind the $377M that MAN OF STEEL took in. And this will be surpassed within the next 24 hours.
Worldwide, SUICIDE SQUAD has brought in over $675M moving ahead of MAN OF STEEL and its $668M.
So does this mean SUICIDE SQUAD was really that better than MAN OF STEEL? That's a debate for comment sections, forums and social media platforms online. But as of right now, nobody can doubt the fact SUICIDE SQUAD has had an impressive run in the box office. And while debates will rage online for a long time, it seems more and more obvious there is a big disconnected with Superman on the big screen. Hopefully, this will be rectified in JUSTICE LEAGUE with Superman's "soft reboot," when he's resurrected.
