When Marvel Studios released ANT-MAN it was a big risk. Many fans were not happy to see a younger Hank Pym in action in the Ant-Man suit, since it was Scott Lang, but once the box office dust settled the studio was so happy with the film they green lit its sequel, ANT-MAN AND THE WASP.
Janet Van Dyne was introduced in ANT-MAN but fans really didn't get that much backstory on Evangeline Lilly's character. Now, with a sequel in place, Lilly has now confirmed to the website Blastr that ANT-MAN AND THE WASP will in fact be an origin story for Hope and the Wasp.
"Right now, an initial script has been created, but it has not been approved by the higher powers that be, by [Kevin] Feige. So I haven’t seen it yet, I haven’t actually seen the script. I have talked to Peyton [Reed] about where they’re heading and what they want to focus on. I’m excited because it’s essentially going to be the origin of the Wasp. Of course, we’re going to see the Wasp for the first time take on the mantle and put on the suit and fly about and do her thing."
Lilly also confirmed the Wasp won't appear in AVENGERS: INFINITY WAR but she will appear in AVENGERS 4 seeing as how the studio wants to set-up the female hero first in ANT-MAN AND THE WASP.
"...[T]here’s an Avengers series coming out, it’s a two-parter. The Wasp won’t be in the first part, she’ll be in the second part because they really want to preserve that reveal for Ant-Man and the Wasp so they can give it its due time."
ANT-MAN AND THE WASP releases on July 6, 2018.
