By the time CAPTAIN MARVEL releases in 2019, Marvel Studios will have released 20 films since 2008. In that time, only ANT-MAN AND THE WASP, in summer 2018, will have featured a female hero in the title. But once CAPTAIN MARVEL hits cinemas, the Marvel Cinematic Universe will becoming more powerful than ever.
In an interview with studio head Kevin Feige, IGN got him to disclose that Captain Marvel will in fact be the most powerful hero in the MCU.
"What is one of the coolest things about [Captain Marvel] is she will be by far the most powerful character we've ever introduced..."
Feige went on to discuss that his creative team have been figuring out Carol Danvers' (played by Brie Larson) limitations and vulnerabilities.
'How do you find those limitations? How do you find those vulnerabilities?' is something that is sort of at the crux of the story that we're putting together. She has -- as you know from the comics -- an interesting story, and I think we have a very cool and unique way of telling that story. I don't think it's leaked yet exactly what we're doing with her movie or how we're doing it, but it will be cool. She will prove to be a very important character in our universe for all the movies."
Finally, Feige said he has hoped to have a director in place this past summer, but there's a reason they haven't found someone to helm the film just yet.
"[W]e're trying to get a little more of the story set before we bring a filmmaker on so we can talk about the story with the filmmaker before we bring them on."
