Over the weekend, Deadline has reported that Tim Miller has left the DEADPOOL 2 director's chair citing creative differences with producer and star Ryan Reynolds. A shocking reveal, for sure, seeing as how Miller, Reynolds and screenwriters Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick were all instrumental in the development and the endless pursuit of getting DEADPOOL to the big screen.
While the breakup is being called "amicable" by Deadline, TheWrap is reporting that Reynolds and Miller haven't really spoke much since DEADPOOL released last February and part of the separation is due to Reynolds' alleged new found power as a producer with the franchise as well as having a say in the casting process. Miller, reportedly, wanted actor Kyle Chandler as Cable while Reynolds and the studio did not. Also, it is alleged that Miller wanted a more stylized sequel while Reynolds wanted to maintain the R-rated dark comedy as in the first film.
All-in-all this is not a good look for Fox seeing as how they've had a bevy of recent issues with several of their Marvel movie franchises, however, it sounds like writers Reese and Wernick are still on board polishing the sequel's script. At least this should maintain the edgy tone and humor of the film.
DEADPOOL 2 is supposed to begin filming in early 2017, for a potential 2018 release, but without a director it remains to be seen if its production schedule will be delayed. Or if it can find a new director quickly and maintain it's projected production schedule.
