Director James Mangold and 20th Century Fox have done something with the next Wolverine movie that you don't see much in the film industry. They've been able to keep LOGAN so secretive and under wraps that even the big Hollywood trade reports are hard to take as truth since leaks from this movie has been pretty much non-existent.
But with the movie set to hit theaters in March, reveals have been ramping up over the past week and especially on the movie's Instagram page. Here's a few official image teases...
LOGAN has been described as being a movie with a Western theme and tone to it and you definitely get this from several of these images. Also, that severed arm has a strong implication of the film's desire to get an R-rating.
One thing to note is of the image titled 'Pierce,' which is of actor Boyd Holbrock as the Marvel character Donald Pierce. In the comics, Pierce is not a well-known character but he is a cyborg who hates mutants and has an association with the Hellfire Club along with putting together a team of cyborgs, called Reavers, to hunt down mutants. Some of these comic universe concepts may stick for LOGAN but some of it may not. However, TheWrap is reporting how Pierce will be "'the head of security for a global organization' known as Transigen."
Moving on to other rumors, TheWrap is reporting about potential character reveals and it all starts with the child's hand seen in the first official movie poster for LOGAN. According to their insider, that is the hand of Laura Kinney, who is also known as the Wolverine clone X-23. TheWrap writes:
"The girl in the poster is a young mutant, an insider with knowledge of the production told TheWrap. In 2024, mutant births are severely in decline, and people aren’t sure why. 'Logan’s' plot follows a government-type operation called 'Transigen' that is turning mutant children into killing machines. Jackman ends up mentoring the girl, who has two claws instead of his three."
Finally, the trade site says all the hype for Mr. Sinister being in LOGAN is false and he does not have a role in the film. Which is odd seeing as how X-MEN: APOCALYPSE director Bryan Singer recently said his post-credits scene was to set-up LOGAN and it has heavy implications Mr. Sinister is set to debut in Fox's X-Men movie universe. Maybe Fox and Mangold are saving a possible Mr. Sinister reveal as their big surprise while you're in your theater seat.
LOGAN releases on March 3, 2017.
