At Marvel TV's New York Comic Con 2016 panel, the biggest announcement was the addition of Sigourney Weaver to the ever-growing Netflix Marvel universe in THE DEFENDERS.
"Golden Globe-winning and Oscar and Emmy nominated actress Sigourney Weaver, who joined them on stage, was announced as playing a significant but unspecified role in 'Marvel's The Defenders.'
“'Marvel is honored to have an actress of her caliber and status join what is already our biggest show ever! She is by definition a class act,' said Jeph Loeb, Executive Producer and Head of Marvel Television."
While the role is unspecified, per Marvel, it is already being assumed that Weaver will in fact play a villain in Marvel's THE DEFENDERS 8-episode mini-series, which begins filming in the coming weeks and debuts on the streaming service in 2017.
