DOCTOR STRANGE Opened Thursday Night in the U.S. With $9.4 Million

After opening in 33 territories overseas last weekend with $86 million, it seems more than obvious that Marvel Studios has itself yet another blockbuster with DOCTOR STRANGE. Last night the film opened in U.S. theaters with an estimated $9.4M in those Thursday night screenings.

Let's compare it to the studios' recent Thursday night movie openings.

CAPTAIN AMERICA: CIVIL WAR opened with $25M in its Thursday night U.S. opening.

ANT-MAN opened with $6.4M.

AVENGERS: AGE OF ULTRON opened with $27.2M.

GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY opened with $11.2M.

CAPTAIN AMERICA: THE WINTER SOLDIER opened with $10.2M.

THOR: THE DARK WORLD opened with $7.1M.

IRON MAN 3 opened with $15.6M.

DOCTOR STRANGE is projecting for an approximate $75 million domestic opening weekend and so far it's well on its way to hitting that prediction. And surely the studio braintrust has to be thinking sequel, too, since there are currently three open 2020 release dates already set by Marvel Studios.
