SUPERGIRL Season 2 Episode 8 'Medusa' Review: So the beginning of our 4-night superhero crossover event begins in National City. We start with a Supergirl thanksgiving. Winn and James are trying to figure out how to tell Kara about their night activities. Kara and her mother are warming up the turkey Krypton style. And Alex is threatening Winn and James not to overshadow her coming out moment to her mom.
Of course all of this is interrupted by the space time continuum being ripped open right above the thanksgiving feast (which looks suspiciously like a breach from another CW show). This effectively ends the dinner and pushes everyone back into their DEO jobs.
Kara goes to get and get information from Lena about her mother. There is apparently no love loss there as Lena has nothing nice to say about her. Lena even goes as far as to try call Lillian to try and snuff out information on her mother’s evil doings.
Mon-El is getting his drink on at the alien dive bar when he thinks he sees Hank. Following him out, he realizes it is Cyborg Superman. He effectively gets his ass handed to him, while the aliens inside are dying from a weapon Cyborg planted. Mon-El is too late to help. Although he doesn't seem to have been affected, DEO quarantined Mon-El until they can figure out what the toxin was. Kara and Hank are requested to stay out of the field as well as Alex takes point on this.
Kara passes the time with Mon-El by playing monopoly and grilling him on whether or not he likes her (as her mother suggested). He laughs it off but is hit by the virus that he came in contact with. Eliza figures out that it was a Krypton made weapon and Kara goes to the Fortress of Solitude to find out what happens. Kelex, her once faithful robot servant, now sees her as an intruder. He attacks and she has no choice but to put him down
At the Fortress of Solitude, she finds out that her father created Project Medusa, which is a virus to kill any non-Kryptonian alien. Mon-El is only still alive because Kryptonians and Daxamites are cousins.
Kara is stunned that her parents would create such a destructive weapon and questions who her parents really were. As Hank reassures Kara that her family had to make a tough decision to protect their people, he experiences the effects of turning into a white Martian. However, he tells Kara to not tell anyone and get distracted from stopping Cadmus. Martyr. Party of one.
While Eliza and Alex work on finding a cure, Eliza reveals she knows what she has been trying to tell her and assures her that she still loves her daughter. They share their finding with Kara that the virus can only be dispersed by a weapon made my L Corp. Lena’s company.
Supergirl dashes to the building and is immediately thrust into battle with Cyborg Superman. Lena comes in right in the middle of it and is almost crushed by a flying piece of concrete but Supergirl saves her. Just as Cyborg is getting the upper hand, another hole in the time space continuum opens up and Supergirl uses the distraction to her advantage but he escapes as she checks on a wounded Maggie
Kara feels guilty about not being able to do anything and apologizes to Mon-El for her family's part in the virus. Mon-El kisses Kara, either in fever induce moment or throwing caution to the wind. At least it didn't take all season.
Lena is upset that Supergirl tells her about her mom's involvement with Cadmus and denies it. However doubt seeks in and she goes to see her mother. Initially, it seems Lena was with her mother about death all aliens and all that propaganda (trust me I thought my suspicions were true), but when Kara and Hank fail to stop the virus from being released, it doesn't work. Lena switched out the isotope. So she may not be so evil after all.
Eliza not only creates a cure and saves Mon-El’s life but also reverses Hank’s white Martian transformation. Mon-El also conveniently “forgets” he kissed Kara and she'd decides not to reveal it.
Maggie and Alex make some headway as Alex tells her about her coming out to her mom. After her near death experience with Cyborg Superman she decides to take a leap of faith and start a relationship with her.
Well as one door closes on Mon-El and Kara, another one opens for Maggie and Alex. At least someone had a happy ending. Soon we should be seeing what Mon-El has been hiding as we get a look into a few aliens who are looking for him. I have a feeling he got in more trouble than he initially revealed.
Sadly we didn't get much of a crossover until the very end. Of course the portals were Cisco and Barry trying to get through to the other universe. They finally get in at the end and request Supergirl’s help. Alas we should get more explanation on THE FLASH.
